Meet Kaleb and Kelsie Weitzel!

Kelsie and Kaleb are Stan's children and they have been in the Calhoun County Swine Club for numerous years. They have agreed to let me follow them through the 4 month preparation of their fair pigs.

Kelsie is 17 years old and a senior in high school. She is a ninth year member of the swine club and is this year's club President! In her free time she enjoys shopping, hanging out with her "homies" and working at a horse farm doing maintenance and horse husbandry. She plans to attend Western Michigan University in the fall to study Exercise Science and run on the collegiate track team.

Kaleb is 14 years old and an 8th grader. He has been a member in the swine club for four years. Kaleb has a wide range of hobbies including but not limited to sports (wrestling and track among others), watching action movies, and reading. His favorite subject in school is Math. Over Spring Break he went spelunking (cave exploring) in southern Indiana and found it very interesting. He is also part of the local Future Farmers of America (FFA) program.

4-H Pigs: More than just fair week

Youth across the nation are gearing up for this year's 4-H projects. Those cute, clipped, and clean animals at county fairs require months of preparation and care. Throughout the next few months you have the opportunity to learn what it takes to be a 4-H'er in the Calhoun County Swine Club as I journal about two youth and their pigs. Stay tuned to find out who will be featured in this blogumentary.
